We Are Houston Strong!
It has been almost a year since our city of Houston was struck with disaster from Hurricane Harvey.
During that time, the Houston SPCA took in hundreds upon hundreds of displaced animals. One of those such animals was my foster, Ophelia. Named for two reasons, the first reason being, it comes from the Greek origin, meaning "help". Which is exactly what she needed. She was found severely emaciated, covered in oil, and her skin was rotting away from being in the flood waters for so long. She was rushed to the decontamination chamber so her skin could be carefully cleaned and then remained at the Houston SPCA for supportive care. The second reason being named after the Lumineer’s song entitled Ophelia. In the chorus of the song it says, “Oh, Ophelia, you’ve been on my mind, girl, since the flood.” From the first time I met her, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. Over the course of 2 months I fostered her and helped her regain not only her strength and health but her trust in people.
Although the flood waters have receded, Houston continues to rebuild and grow back stronger than ever. It has truly been amazing to work for such an incredible organization and to see our team rise up in the face of disaster.
I would have never been given the opportunity to foster her if it wasn’t for the amazing vet team and staff at the Houston SPCA. It’s with your contributions and donations that we are able to provide medical care for thousands of animals year around, just like Ophelia.
So here's the part where I ask you to donate, any amount helps and is appreciated greatly!
